What is wrong with my knockout rose? Knock out roses are known for being extremely disease resistant. However, due to environmental conditions, this rose can get some of the same diseases that other roses have. A virus called Rose Rosette disease is incurable. Some signs of this disease are: bloom buds falling off, deformed distorted leaves, an unusual amount of thorns, and new growth remaining red. The cure for RRD is to dig the rose out and replace it.
Generally, knockout roses are limited in fragrance and color. There are many other kinds of roses, such as hybrid tea, floribunda, grandiflora, polyantha, shrubs, climbers. Many of these are fragrant and have a variety of beautiful colors. Be sure that the rosebush you buy says disease resistant. Rose bushes are very sturdy and resilient. A great rosebush to buy is Cinco de Mayo.
There are many good products to use on rose bushes. Many have fertilizers, insecticides, and fungicides combined.
Be sure to give your rosebush at least 8 hours of sun, a lot of room, and keep it pruned so it has air circulation in the middle.
