Hello gardeners! Although the summer heat is still with us, the Montgomery County Master Gardeners are eagerly awaiting milder temperatures and the annual Fall Plant Sale on Saturday, October 13.
Make plans to come out early to find the best selection from popular varieties you have come to expect from MCMGA. Fall is the perfect time for planting in our area. The weather begins to cool and over the winter, plants have a good chance to establish roots before spring arrives!
If you need a shrub or tree, consider planting Almond Verbena or perhaps one of the many Hibiscus varieties we will have for sale would meet your needs. We will also have Common Buttonbush, which is a Texas native and grows wild around streams and ponds. Either of these plants will be a nice addition to your garden. If orange is your color, you can’t go wrong with Orange Flame Justicia, which bears bright orange tubular flowers with dark green leaves. There will also be hundreds of perennial varieties for you to choose from.
We will also have Succulents, vegetables, and herbs at the sale. If you need help deciding, we will be happy to assist you. Just find a Master Gardener in a blue shirt – we are eager to help!
Master Gardeners love plants that attract pollinators, and once again we will offer a nice selection of pollinator plants. Choose from Mexican Honeysuckle, the Texas Superstar Pride of Barbados, Dutchman’s Pipevine (host plant for the Pipevine Swallowtail), Flame Acanthus, and many others.
